In the context of SHAAMS EU project of promoting solar energy in the Mediterrenean countries, Berytech was part of an exceptional activation of Earth Hour 2016 as primary partners for the solar-powered concert at Uberhaus- Beirut Waterfront, on March 19, 2016, in the presence of Youth and Sports Minister Abdul Muttalib Hinnawi and the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon Mrs. Sigrid Kaag, organized by G NGO.

Berytech is proud to support such initiative and celebrate a worldwide movement, especially that a new innovation track is being developed for the support of green entrepreneurs and eco-innovations.

Lights were turned off for an hour at 8:30 pm Beirut time in a number of official buildings such as Grand Serail and the port of Byblos, universities and houses, as well as the municipality of Beirut, at the request of the governor of the city of Beirut Mr. Ziad Shabib, in order to unite Lebanon in spreading environmental awareness and rational use of energy.

The concert was characterized by three zeros: zero conventional energy as solar panels have been installed to harvest power from the sun, zero waste by using recyclable material and zero carbon, and it received support from many participating companies along with thousands of Lebanese youth that attended the concert.

The World Wide Fund for Nature WWF launched “Earth Hour”, one of the biggest events around the world, urging millions around the world to turn off lights, with the participation of 178 countries and territories this year. This event is organized annually to highlight the importance of environmental sustainability and how can each individual and institution make a distinguished influence to protect environment.
