Edulab wins Arab MIT Business Plan Competition Print
Image A young start-up in Berytech and winner of 2005 Incubation Awards, Edulab ranked first in the MIT Business Plan Competition 2007 that registered over 1,600 entries from the Arab World.

A first of its kind in the Arab region, this competition was designed to encourage all entrepreneurs in the region to start their own company and ultimately create a nest of leading firms in the Arab world. It also brings to the Arab world all the MIT expertise in entrepreneurship and in running such competitions.

Edulab’s business, which consists in the creation of interactive, educational CDs for school children, covering science subjects (math, physics, chemistry, biology, IT), both in the French and English languages, seemed to have won the appreciation of the jury which consisted of business professionals.

A first round of qualifications brought down the number of applications to 30 teams who were required to submit a full business plan; the second round yielded 9 finalists who went through an oral presentation in front of a jury of three on May 25, 2007 in Berytech Technology & Health.

Edulab ranked first, winning a USD 50K prize, while Batroun Biofuels came in the second place and Hatifou came in third.

On Thursday June 28, 2007, an MIT delegation visited Edulab in Berytech Technology & Health, Mar Roukoz, where Edulab is hosted, to remit the prize.

The prize money will allow the entrepreneurs behind Edulab, Elie Chaaya and Dany Aouad, to refine their product, engage into marketing activities and deploy their concept into the international arena.
