DOT Launches The Social Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Mapping

BEIRUT – November 18, 2016 – Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT) Lebanon and its partners launch the Social Entrepreneurship Ecosystem Mapping for Lebanon.

DOT Lebanon in Partnership with UNESCO, Berytech, MakeSense, Tahaki Portal & Lebanese League for Women in Business launched an exercise to map the Social Entrepreneurship Ecosystem in Lebanon, post to the award of a 4 years grant by the Canadian Government to implement a Social Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship project (Digital Livelihoods – DL) in several countries in Sub-Saharan Africa and the MENA regions.

As a first step of implementing future programs in Lebanon; there is a need to understand better the Social Entrepreneurship Ecosystem. In order to identify those ecosystems, a mapping exercise was allocated to DOT Lebanon and its Partners to learn about the existing and potential stakeholders that can contribute to the Social Entrepreneur journey mainly in Lebanon.

The areas that were part of this ecosystem mapping were Akkar and North, Bekaa, South and Nabatiyeh, Beirut and Mount Lebanon.

An event was held on November 18, 2016 at Berytech Mathaf for the official launching of the Social Entrepreneur Online Map. With its key partners: UNESCO, Berytech, Makesense, Tahaki and Lebanese League for Women in Business, DOT Lebanon revealed more about the future of implementing projects around Lebanon, and about the existing and potential stakeholders that can contribute to the Social Entrepreneur journey in Lebanon.

The event was followed by a networking session and a reception.

Digital Opportunity Trust (DOT) Lebanon is a non-profit organization that has been working with marginalized communities in Lebanon since it first introduced its ReachUp! program in partnership with Cisco Systems. The success of this pilot project allowed DOT Lebanon to expand, introducing new programs as a result of support from Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD, formerly CIDA). Since 2013, DOT Lebanon has been working with World Learning as part of a USAID funded education project, “D-RASATI II,” which helps integrate ICT training into 126 public schools in the country.  In 2016 DOT Lebanon was Co Leading a project “The ICT in education-No Lost Generation: No Syrian child is left behind” to provide digital literacy training to 10 education caregivers from World Vision Lebanon. In addition, DOT Lebanon is providing an intensive In-service ICT Training for Teaching and Learning on TeachUp! curriculum to train teachers in the Zahle and Mtein schools with A World At School. Recently, DOTLebanon is providing a workshop on developing the digital skills for around 80 teachers in the Bekaa Area with Social Support Society and Thaki.
