BASATINE (Bolstering Agriculture Systems’ Ability to Invest, Nourish, and Employ) is a 4-year programme aiming to sustain the capacity of Lebanese agriculture to produce food for the local market, create and maintain jobs, generate social cohesion between host communities and refugees, as well as promote gender impartiality.

With the support of Agence Française de Développement (AFD), a consortium made of six NGOs with vast experience in agriculture and market systems development was created. It includes CARE (as lead), Mercy Corps (MC), Berytech Foundation, Georges N. Frem Foundation (GNFF), Lebanese Organization for Studies and Training (LOST) and Al Majmoua.

Supporting Farmers and MSMEs

BASATINE will support vulnerable farmers and related value chain actors in cereals, legumes and vegetables in Bekaa and Akkar regions.

Berytech’s role in the program is multifold starting with building a digital platform to connect farmers to various groups and players in the agricultural value chain to providing them with crucial data that will allow them to stay up to date with all the aspects that affect their work. Berytech will also provide the farmers involved in the program with digital literacy training.

Moreover, and with close collaboration with Mercy Corps, Berytech will supply 156 selected MSMEs with capacity building, business support and in-kind grants up to $25,000. Following that, the MSMEs will be matched with key agri-food stakeholders and members from QOOT, Lebanon’s Agri-Food Innovation Cluster.

Who can apply?

The program is open for MSMEs that:

  • Work across the cereal, legume and vegetable value chains beyond the farming level.
  • Work in the regions of Bekaa or Akkar.
  • Work outside Bekaa and Akkar but have a demonstrated impact on farmers in those two regions.
  • Have a minimum of 3 full-time employees to a maximum of 60 full-time employees.

Women-led MSMEs are highly encouraged to apply.
