ABOUT THE HACKATHON
Under the PHEMAC project, Berytech is organizing the second edition of the Go2Market Hackathon that will enable innovators to validate their innovation in the market, further strengthen their know-how and define their go to market strategy tapping in Lebanon and in Water-Energy-Food Nexus sector (WEF-NEXUS).
The selected projects will go over an intensive program where they will receive technical and practical guidance with experts in the WEF-NEXUS sector, develop their commercialization and market strategy, learn about basic financial modelling, validate their innovation in the market, learn about Intellectual Property Rights and prepare a pitch to present it to investors and partners.
The Go2Market Hackathon will take place in person in Beirut, Lebanon on 5, 6 and 7 September, 2022.
Following the intensive 3-days hackathon, the selected projects will be participating in two major events taking place in Beirut, Lebanon.
- The PHEMAC Regional Innovation Week organized by AUB-IFI on October 10, 2022
- The Green Innovation Days organized by Berytech on October 11, 12, and 13, 2022

WHO CAN APPLY
- Startup and/or independent entrepreneurs working on early-stage prototypes and technology solutions looking for commercializing and protecting their innovations to address the needs and opportunities in WEF-NEXUS sector in the Mediterranean region
- University students, alumni, researchers from target faculties working on business or research projects in the WEF-NEXUS sector in the Mediterranean region
- Individuals, or members of a R&D transfer department (or similar role) in the industrial sector.
- Technology transfer officers working on WEF-NEXUS Innovation looking for commercializing and protecting their innovations.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Applicants will be assessed based on the strength of the application, including technology innovation assessment, the economic viability and scalability potential of the project, and the team expertise and motivation
- Participants residing in Lebanon
- Applied research or project being innovative and technology-based
- Project being an existing prototype or proof of concept
- Project addressing an important need and opportunity in the Water-Energy-Food Nexus in Lebanon
- Applicant’s field of expertise being in the Water, Energy, Food sectors
- Market and economic viability of the project
- Potential of scalability to the Mediterranean region
10 projects will be selected from Lebanon to get a support adapted to the local context while having access to regional linkages and opportunities.

ABOUT PHEMAC
The PHEMAC project is co-funded by the European Union under the PRIMA program. This project consists of creating an interactive IHUB platform which aims to capitalize on the results and best practices of the innovative projects carried out and those in progress linked to NEXUS and more particularly in the fields of water and agriculture in the Euro-Mediterranean region. PHEMAC will focus on best practices and projects related to farming system, water and food. PHEMAC has been designed considering already defined strategic priorities to develop the framework for cooperation in the MPC region and face future Water Ecosystem, Food and their NEXUS challenges through an open innovation approach supported by an enhanced public-private sector cooperation.
Berytech is an implementing partner in Lebanon of the PHEMAC project and activities, including the setting up of an innovation support helpdesk to facilitate the successful replication of cataloged and validated best practices in the EU-MPC region, the organization of innovation weeks, hackathon events, bootcamp and Go2market support activities.
The PHEMAC project is implemented by 12 partners, distributed among several countries in the Mediterranean: Spain, Egypt, Italy, Lebanon, Jordan, Morocco, France and Tunisia.
