Investment Specialist (WE4F RIH – MENA Program)

Overview

WE4F is a joint international initiative of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the European Union (EU), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of the Netherlands, Sweden through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
Through WE4F, the partners want to expand the scale of innovations that impact the sectors food and water, food and energy or all three sectors of the nexus (food, water, energy) to increase the sustainability of agricultural food value chains, improve energy and water efficiency as well as improve climate-resilient agriculture in developing countries and emerging markets in accordance with the SDGs, with a particular focus on the poor and women.
Berytech is leading a consortium made up of locally rooted, water-energy-food, and entrepreneurship-focused organizations to deliver the WE4F founding partners’ vision for a Regional Innovation Hub (RIH) in the MENA Region.
The project will run until July 2024.
Berytech is looking to expand its team by hiring the position of an Investment Specialist.

Position Objective

As an Investment Specialist, you will be responsible for working on the financial brokering and investment readiness program. The position requires a good understanding of fundraising activities, financial management, and investment readiness knowledge. It also requires the ability to work consistently while meeting urgent deadlines. The Investment Specialist will directly report to the ‘Head of Financial Brokering and Investment Facilitation and collaborate closely with other functions such as technical assistance, communication and monitoring, and reporting.

This position requires analytical skills, financial expertise, a professional and positive attitude, fund-raising experience, organization, and dependability. This is a challenging role, but, at the same time, makes available endless opportunities and learning.

Key Responsibilities

The Investment Specialist will be entirely responsible for working on the financial brokering and investment readiness program for WE4F RIH – MENA program. This would be inclusive of the following:

• Collaborate on setting clear financial brokering and investment facilitation standards
• Develop systems, tools, and processes related to financial brokering and investment facilitation
• Deliver overall client satisfaction, technical excellence and operational efficiency
• Work on the facilitation of investment to the WE4F innovators in the region
• Identify local and regional funding sources for matchmaking purposes
• Identify available funding solutions including guarantee instruments, crowd funding, debt financing, grants with milestones, equity financing and reimbursable grants
• Work with WE4F innovators on determining company valuation and investment strategy, the development of an investment teaser/memorandum and pitch deck, and the selection of the right investment sources.
• Collaborate on the selection of the right investors and the negotiation of the term-sheet and company valuation to protect the interests of the WE4F innovators.
• Develop and help execute a post-investment growth and scale-up plan with clear Key Strategic Initiatives (KSIs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure continuous scalability and value creation.

Position Requirements

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance; MBA preferred, but not required
• A CFA level certification or at an advanced stage of completion is preferred

Experience

• At least 7-years of experience in the field of finance at management level
• Experience in an investment bank, Corporate Banking, or VC/PE fund would be an added advantage

Knowledge and Skills

• Should possess business planning skills including financial modeling and budgeting
• Should have a proven ability to achieve and surpass targets
• Must demonstrate skills in communication, negotiation and presentation
• Excellent organizational and project management skills
• Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and produce quality results on time with attention to detail
• Strong communication skills, both interpersonal and written
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines, effectively managing multiple priorities
• Ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-financial managers
• Good problem-solver and analytical
