The first batch of the Rural Entrepreneurs in Agri-Food (REAF) program has successfully concluded with the Demo Day on March 26, marking a significant milestone in supporting rural innovation. This batch saw numerous startups from South Mount Lebanon and Central and West Bekaa gain essential grants, training, networking and mentorship to bring their innovative ideas to life. The program, which focuses on agri-food, eco-tourism, sustainable agriculture, and circular economy sectors, has empowered these startups to make a lasting impact on their communities.
Pre-Incubation Phase: Laying the Groundwork
Fifteen startups began their entrepreneurial journey in the pre-incubation phase of the REAF program, each receiving a $2,000 grant to validate their ideas and prototypes. Over three months, they engaged in practical methods to set goals and test assumptions about the problem, market opportunity, audience size, and solution viability. One-on-one clinics provided targeted support to address emerging challenges. At the end of this phase, a panel of experts selected the top eight businesses to advance to the incubation phase.
Incubation Phase: Developing Market-Ready Products
The selected startups—Farming Bee, Cedars Trail Riding Club, Crispy Fried Onions, 3a Droub Zahle, Green Taqa, Hommos Hummus, Lebotanica, and Petals Delights received a $5,000 grant to develop and launch their minimum viable products. This five-month phase focused on key areas such as go-to-market strategies and product development, and founders were taught hands-on skills such as establishing a sustainable financial structure and the lean startup methodology.
“The success of the first batch of the REAF program is a testament to the potential of rural innovation. Our startups have shown incredible dedication and creativity, making significant strides in their respective fields. We are proud to support their journey towards creating impactful, sustainable solutions that benefit their communities. “, explains Adam Sleiman, REAF Program Manager.
The Graduating Startups: Recognizing Excellence

Farming Bee: This startup aims to improve beekeeping and bee populations through an extensive breeding program. Offering queen bee breeds with traits like disease resistance and higher honey output, they support beekeepers in overcoming challenges and enhancing bee health.
Cedars Trail Riding: Focused on sustainable equestrian tourism, Cedars Trail Riding boosts the rural economy by showcasing Lebanon’s natural beauty and cultural heritage. With over 25 partnerships with farmers, campsites, guesthouses, local guides, and artisans, they offer unique and memorable experiences to visitors.
