Agrifresh

LED will support Agrifresh by hiring a consultant to support the company optimize the shelf life of its fresh-cut refrigerated salads produced.

Agrifresh is a packaging facility for fresh-cut vegetables and salads. The company distributes its products (mixed salads, garlic paste, and sandwiches) to many restaurants and key buyers in Lebanon. The company plans to expand regionally and to develop a new facility in line with international standards.

Agrifresh is the official supplier of salads and fresh-cut products to one of the largest food manufacturing and distributing companies in the region. Because of its contract with this regional buyer, Agrifresh also has the possibility to export long shelf life products (salads and fresh-cut vegetables) to the buyer’s branches in the Middle East.

The buyer is willing to buy from Agrifresh for their branches in the Middle East if the company can extend the shelf life of their products to 10 days instead of 4-5 days. The USAID-funded LED project signed an MOU with Agrifresh to cost-share for a consultant to help the company optimize the shelf life of its fresh-cut refrigerated salads produced. Agrifresh will invest in the construction of a new facility located in Zahle and will purchase any required new equipment.

With LED’s help, Agrifresh expects to increase its sales and generate 63 new jobs by 2020.
