Bread & Bakery, known as “La Tour” was founded in 2007 in Ksara, Zahle. The company produces all kinds of bread (Lebanese and French), pastries, viennoiserie, kaak and other related products. La Tour is among the largest bakery/pastries in Central Bekaa.
Today, the company is developing a new range of healthy products for people with diabetes and customers who desire healthy and freshly baked quality-food.
La Tour is currently negotiating with several well-known supermarkets to supply them with these new products.
The main constraint affecting this deal is that La Tour needs support to scale up the recipe from a small, in-house trial to a commercially viable, standardized formula. For this scaling to take place, an intervention of a food specialist is needed to test the recipe La Tour has developed to ensure that future production is consistent, standardized, and commercially viable.
LED will cost-share with La Tour to hire a consultant who will review the new recipes and help La Tour to refine them and define production processes that will permit the company to produce the new products a commercial scale.
With LED support the bakery expects to increase sales and generate 5 new jobs by 2020
