Lamia Chamas earned a BSC and Diploma of Ingenieur Agricole (’90) from the American University of Beirut (AUB) and a DAA (‘92) in Plant Protection from the Institut National Agronomique Paris-Grignon (INA-PG).
She currently works as Senior Project Officer at the Project Administration Office (PAO); the unit at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers administering funds granted from the European Union. From September 2006 to date, Chamas assisted with the formulation of projects responding to Lebanon’s Economic Reform Paper presented to the Paris III donor’s meeting notably in relation to the reinforcement of the private sector competitiveness in Lebanon. She contracted and managed these projects in close coordination with the various beneficiaries from the different public institutions. She is also supporting the work aimed at developing the legal framework for social enterprises in Lebanon.
Before joining the PAO, she was working at the Ministry of Environment in Lebanon which she enrolled in 1994. There, she rapidly occupied a high responsibility position heading one of the Ministry’s key Departments: the Department of Conservation of Nature dealing with the protection of Natural Resources.
She is also a key speaker at the University Saint Joseph in Beirut for the course “Environmental Policies and Strategies” (academic year 2008 to date) and for the course “Elaboration of a Professional Project” (academic year 2011 to date).
