Wassim El-Hajj is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the American University of Beirut (AUB). He received his BS degree from AUB in 2000, and the MS and Ph.D. degrees in 2002 and 2006, respectively, from Western Michigan University (WMU), all in Computer Science.
His research interests are in the areas of Wireless Communication, Network Security, and machine learning To support his research in security, he was awarded in December 2018, a $600,000 grant from Qatar Foundation to secure Smart Grid communication and optimize demand/response. In machine learning (ML), his work focuses on designing scalable ML algorithms and developing accurate sentiment analysis and emotion recognition models. To support his research in ML, he was awarded many grants including a major fund, in 2013, from Qatar Foundation for the amount of 1 million dollars. His research activities culminated with more than 88 publications, published in reputable venues.
