A tomato made for you

Scientists in Ontario, Canada have developed a tomato which is suitable for the country’s extreme climate from frost in the winter to heat in the summer. The summer’s heat was resulting in a lower yield since the seeds used were not adapted to that added stress. This made Vinelands Research and Innovation Center think of developing tomato seeds that would be adaptable to Ontario’s climate. The hybrid tomato plants are just beginning to grow and the article says that if progress continues as it is now, local consumers should be seeing these new tomato varieties on shelves by 2021.

Lebanon has its share of heat in the summer-and more recently, cold in the winter- so it would be a good idea to develop tomato seeds suited for our environment as well.
