Can protein grow on trees?

More and more consumers are favoring plant based protein over animal protein especially after all the information regarding the negative impacts that raising animals for food has on the planet. As such a Californian based agribusiness- TerViva, has introduced pongamia trees into the country.

Pongamia is an excellent substitute for animal protein and although some varieties were too bitter to eat, newer varieties like the ones being developed in California are a very good alternative to soya beans for example. This is because pongamia grows on trees which means that it is contributing to a good natural environment and at the same time helping people move away from animal proteins by providing with a variety of plant alternatives.
