High tech agriculture used for the benefit of farming

Technology is increasingly being used to advance farming and while that is overall a good thing, the article warns that precision agriculture and technology can lead to farmers repeating certain tech techniques without thinking of the environmental impact or of alternative options (the author gives the example of how technology is used to control the amount of pesticides used which is a good thing but does not leave room for thinking of alternative ways to control for harmful insects). The article suggests better uses of technology in farming including better coordination among farmers, evaluation of material and energy flows and farming methods that would promote sustainability.
