Fishing and aquaculture is a main food source for many countries including Lebanon. As such, when the water becomes polluted or overfishing occurs, this source is undermined. This is what is happening with Lake Victoria in Africa where overfishing and water pollution are even rendering some fish species extinct. At the same time, Chinese farmed fish are flooding the market in Africa at a lower price than the African variety.
