Applications are open and entrepreneurs can now apply for the WeMed Award, the Mediterranean Prize for Sustainability, funded by the European Union through the SwitchMed program, the ENI CBC Med program and its STAND Up! project.
In this second edition, the WeMed Award 2022 is dedicated to the textile and clothing sectors. In this sense, its main aim is to reward the success stories of sustainable companies in the textile and fashion sector.
Startups and entrepreneurs who decide to apply will be eligible for a first prize of 20,000 euros and a second prize of 10,000 euros, awarded in the form of vouchers, which include coaching services and technical assistance.
The WeMed Award aims to recognize an inclusive transition towards sustainability of the industry in the Mediterranean. Regions around the Mediterranean basin face significant environmental and social challenges and the award is intended to reward SMEs that adopt innovations to address these challenges in their business models.
This is a flagship initiative of the Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development of the United Nations Program of Action for the Mediterranean (UNEP/MAP), organized by MedWaves, the UNEP/MAP Regional Activity Center for Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) and Texfor – Textile Industry Confederation. In this second edition, the award is part of STAND Up!, a project financed by the EU within the framework of the ENI CBC Med Programme.
According to the regulations of the WeMed Award, projects that are in an “early stage” and in their “growth stage”, scalable eco-innovative companies led by women (without age limit) and/or young people (up to 35 years) can be submitted. On the one hand, two categories have been established, one for projects from countries in the North of the Mediterranean and another for those in the South (Maghreb and Mashrek). On the other hand, the companies that apply for the award must be included in the eligible areas of the ENI CBC Med program, which includes 112 territories in 14 countries (Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, Palestine, Portugal, Spain and Tunisia).
The call for applications will be open until next October 16th through the website www.wemedaward.org/.
