Part of Berytech’s role in the BASATINE consortium funded by Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and in partnership with CARE (as lead), Mercy Corps (MC), Georges N. Frem Foundation (GNFF), Lebanese Organization for Studies and Training (LOST), and Al Majmoua, is to work on developing an existing digital information platform, a mobile application, meant to disseminate critical information for farmers to maximize their income from their products.
To better understand the farmers’ needs, two roundtables were designed, one in Akkar, in the municipality of Qobayyat, and the other in the Bekaa, at LARI premises. 18 farmers from Akkar and 35 from Bekaa met to discuss what they deem exciting and essential in an agriculture application. Some topics mentioned included price monitoring, weather alerts, experts’ advice, technical training, input supplies, linkages with agri-businesses and end consumers, etc.
This application will significantly impact elevating agriculture practices to another level where all stakeholders can benefit from the luxury of having all relevant information at their fingertips. We believe this application will be a trustworthy source and the reference to be used by most Lebanese farmers.
