With this series of interviews you will learn more about the team behind the implementation of NEX-LABs project. Issue 1 – Meet Gustavo Pérez Gónzalez, Senior Project Manager at Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona
Gustavo, tell us more about your organization
UAB is one of the major public universities of Spain, currently offering +100 bachelor’s degrees, covering a wide range of fields such as humanities and arts, social sciences, health sciences, technology and physical sciences. Furthermore, the UAB offers +140 Master’s degrees, as well as 8 Erasmus Mundus Master’s degrees; more than 1,114 PhD dissertations have been elaborated within its doctoral programs. The University has over 40,000 students, almost 4,500 researchers and teaching staff, and it hosts more than 5,000 foreign students.
What is your background and how does that background contribute to NEX-LABS?
PhD in Chemistry addressing environmental remediation and +15 years’ experience on international projects management allowed to consolidate a long-lasting relationship to raise around 25M€ from different international funding sources. Such background comes up with the opportunity to support the fruitful implementation of NEX-LABS project.
What is your role in the NEX-LABS project, what are you currently working on?
Coordinator project manager overseeing partners contributions, supporting sound and robust communication, working on the landscape identification for clustering scenarios to implement NDOLLS, motivate the WEF NEXUS entrepreneurial attitude while supporting it through productivity enhancement and support and tackling the policy capitalization of project outputs.
What are your expectations in the NEX-LABS project? What do you think will have major impact for the Mediterranean community?
To contribute for the consolidation and buildup of a strategy to support the establishment of reference Nexus Living Labs in the Southern Mediterranean that may become key actors on the implementation of future sustainable and resilient solutions to face the future NEXUS challenges.
How do you like to spend your free time?
High mountain hiking to get lost, to abstract myself and to find myself in the company of family and friends.
The NEX-LABS Project in Brief
An international consortium of 11 partners from 7 different countries across the Mediterranean, including Berytech in Lebanon, joined forces to tackle the challenges of a competitive and inclusive growth thanks to a nexus driven approach.
NEX-LABS project is co-funded by the European Union under the ENI CBC Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme and has the ambitious goal to set up a long-term regional policy of the Mediterranean Strategy for Sustainable Development. Learn more here.
