Berytech has issued a call for applications to select 30 candidates for admission to the Technological Transfer Process and Mentorship and Guidance for Business Creation Program under the project “New Business opportunities & Environmental sustainability using MED GRAPE nanotechnological products – BESTMEDGRAPE”, financed by the programme ENI CBC “Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme 2014-2020”, that will take place from September 2020 to August 2022.

The Mentorship & Guidance Program in Brief

BESTMEDGRAPE objectives are to promote technological transfer, increase business opportunities on Med area by sharing knowledge/good practices among research/private companies/local institutions on grape waste exploitation. 

For this project, a call for application is launched to source applicants and identify potential entrepreneurs who are most inclined and likely to propose viable project ideas. 

Applicants will be selected keeping in mind the interdisciplinarity aspect and the presence of essential industry sectors in order to ensure an effective group.

BESTMEDGRAPE

Based on the R&D experience of the partners in the fields of grape valorisation, waste exploitation and development of nanotechnological antioxidant/anti-inflammatory/anti-neurodegenerative formulations, BESTMEDGRAPE aims at supporting the creation of new startups/SMEs by transferring scientific/technological knowledge on local grape cultivars and the exploitation of wine by-products as a source of bioactive compounds that can be transformed into innovative commercial health products.

Hence, the project will not only valorise a Mediterranean product – grape – but also the expansion of the grape value chain through the development of nanotechnological products, thus boosting the local economy, reducing environmental pollution and increasing employment opportunities.

BESTMEDGRAPE aims at supporting the creation of new startups and SMEs by transferring scientific and technological knowledge on local grape cultivars and the exploitation of wine by-products as a source of bioactive compounds that can be transformed into innovative commercial health products.

Selection Criteria

We are calling for researchers, innovators, scientists, engineers, technicians, post-graduate students, instructors and professors who fit the following profile:

  • Lebanese national
  • +18 years of age
  • Holder of at least a high-school diploma
  • In all domains of expertise
  • The project will consider individuals, if you are part of a team, all team members will be required to apply.

Selection Process

Admission to the project will be based on the review of the following:

  • The online application form
  • The curriculum vitae
  • The motivational interview

The review of the curriculum vitae will be carried out on the basis of:

  • any studies higher than high school,
  • the achievement of certifications and qualifications,
  • further training and work experiences and
  • the knowledge of the English language.

    Evaluation Process

    For the evaluation of each candidate, the selection committee will have 100 points, divided as follows:
    • Curriculum evaluation: up to a maximum of 50 points
      • Education: up to a maximum of 30 points, on the basis of the following scale of values:
        • 5 points, degree (master’s degree 2 points, bachelor’s degree 3 points, single cycle degree 5 points)
        • 10 points, degree secondary school diploma
        • 15 points, other titles
          • professional certification in relevant materials (10 points for certification)
          • professional qualification in related matters (5 points for qualification)
      • Other titles and experiences as entrepreneurs or self-employment in the two thematic area of the project, up to a maximum of 20 points:
        • Relevant working experience 2 points per year, up to a maximum of 8 points
        • Certified knowledge of the english language, up to a maximum of 12 points
    • Motivational Interview: up to a maximum of 50 points

    The Program's Timeline & Support Stages

    Business Creation

    122 Hours

    Selected applicants will receive training workshops on 

    • integrating managerial and scientific knowledge; 
    • developing problem solving and managerial skills, 
    • analyzing entrepreneurial and market opportunities and 
    • acquiring pitching and networking skills. This training does not require any kind of prerequisite. 

    The Business Creation activities will consist of two phases: 

    • Breeding ground for business ideas 
    • Development of the business idea

    Living Labs

    5 x 16 Hours

    Living Labs will be theoretical-practical laboratories of technological transfer about the research results. They aim to share the knowledge of the local cultivars of grapes and waste exploitation of the grapes to obtain nutraceutical and cosmetic products. 

    The potential entrepreneurs will discover new approaches for innovating and identifying opportunities, synergies and connections links to wine and its by-products.

    Networking Days

    150 potential entrepreneurs

    Networking days will gather all potential entrepreneurs from each partner country partner (Italy, France, Tunisia, Lebanon, Jordan). A total of 150 potential entrepreneurs. The meeting will consist of animation activities with the involvement of local incubators, it will take place in Tunisia.

    Vouchers

    10 potential entrepreneurs

    After the capacity building, 10 potential entrepreneurs will be selected and awarded a non-refundable voucher of €5,000, in order to develop their business idea.

    In order to qualify and receive vouchers, applicants will have to:

    • Attend at least 80% of the hours scheduled for Business Creation
    • Attend at least 80% of the hours scheduled for Living Labs
    • Have successfully passed the Living Labs Quizzes
    • Perform a pitch during the Networking Days in Tunisia

      Contamination up

      10 potential entrepreneurs

      Selected 10 entrepreneurs will receive specialized consulting activities to identify the lines of strategic support for to the implementation of the business.
