Developing Entrepreneurship for MSMEs

The program will be supporting companies in Lebanon with a combination of financial and technical support to adapt to COVID-19. Those selected will receive a cash grant and capacity building in the form of webinars and coaching sessions to increase the impact of SPARK’s financial support. The objective of this program is to contribute to support struggling businesses and help them digitize and fast-track towards new trends. 

About The Program

SPARK, with Berytech as the implementing partner, is supporting MSMEs in Lebanon with a combination of financial and technical support to adapt to Covid-19. Selected MSMEs will receive a cash grant and capacity building in the form of webinars and coaching sessions to increase the impact of SPARK financial support. 

This project is offered by SPARK, implemented by Berytech, funded by the European Union, the EU Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis, the EU Madad Fund, and Sanad.

Digitization

How technology is changing industries and businesses, what are the emerging trends and technologies, understanding the competitive life cycle, setting a strategy and plan and understanding the enablers of digital transformation. 

Sales & Marketing

Digitizing traditional marketing, digital marketing strategy and social media, digitizing sales and CRM. 

Health & Safety

Performing a risk assessment of the workplace, managing the workplace, business continuity plans and communication protocol, policies and procedures for flexible work, safe work practices and workplace control, work life balance and other human resources considerations. 

Crisis Management & Risk Mitigation

Understanding the crisis, managing crisis-related stress and uncertainties, reviewing operations and processes, the business model, financial planning and cash flow forecasting, etc.

SPARK develops higher education and entrepreneurship so that young ambitious people are empowered to lead their post-conflict societies into prosperity. In Lebanon, SPARK has been working to develop the capacity of Syrians and improve their access to higher education, economic empowerment, entrepreneurship and leadership development. Moreover, SPARK supports existing small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to grow and create new job opportunities. SPARK is a not-for-profit, non-political NGO with headquarters in Amsterdam and field offices in South East Europe, Africa, and the MENA region.  

The objective of this program is to contribute to support struggling businesses and help them digitize and fast-track towards new trends.

Program Details

The support will be provided in the form of webinars and 1-1 coaching sessions, the program will be conducted over 4 months, from December 2020 to March 2021. 

Selected MSMEs will need to be fully committed to the program for that period.

Technical support hours administered for Digitization

How technology is changing industries and businesses, what are the emerging trends and technologies, understanding the competitive life cycle, setting a strategy and plan and understanding the enablers of digital transformation. A total of 6 sessions of 3 hours will be administered.  

Technical support hours administered for Sales & Marketing

Digitizing traditional marketing; better targeting, reduced spending, shorter time-to-market, analysis of marketing results, etc. digital marketing strategy and social media, lead and revenue generation, running campaigns, content creation, etc. Digitizing sales; automation, sales support, data analysis, etc. Implications for customer service; web portals, centralized data, CRM, faster support times, improved support quality. A total of 6 sessions of 3 hours will be administered.  

Technical support hours administered for Health & Safety

Performing a risk assessment of the workplace, managing the workplace, business continuity plans and communication protocol, policies and procedures for flexible work, safe work practices and workplace control, work life balance and other human resources considerations, etc. A total of 2 sessions of 3 hours will be administered. 

Technical support hours administered for Risk Mitigation

This technical support will target crisis management and the development of a risk mitigation plan; more specifically understanding the crisis, managing crisis related stress and uncertainties, reviewing operations & processes, the business model (assisting entrepreneurs to formulate hybrid or new business models), identifying new revenue streams, financial planning and cash flow forecasting, etc. A total of 6 sessions of 3 hours will be administered.  

Selection Criteria

  • MSME (Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises) with a minimum of 3 to 30 employees
  • Generating revenue with the potential to grow if given the right support in digitalization of services and operations.
  • With a minimum of one aspect of a digitized system already in place (this can include marketing)
  • Priority will be given to SMEs working in essential fields such as Health, Education, Agri-food, etc. but other sectors may apply
  • The company should be operating in Lebanon and the Company owners must be residing in Lebanon and working within the company.
