The Park: Supported by the WEEL Project to Operate Again

The Park

The Park is an outdoor space for kids and families to enjoy outdoor activities in a healthy and fun environment.  It caters for kids and families who do not find enough places to enjoy nature in a fun way in Lebanon.

The project provides income to women who are part of the team while keeping children and families interested in healthy physical play within a healthy environment away from screens and closed indoor play areas.

We talked to the Park Team about the impact of the support received through their participation in the WEEL project, funded by the European Union and implemented by Expertise France.

Growth and Impact

“After the pandemic and the economic crisis that hit Lebanon, it was impossible for us to keep operating due to enormous operating costs and, especially, electricity outages. We decided to close and run only for special events or birthdays. We applied to the WEEL project to get the financial support to install a solar energy system that will allow us to operate at a much lower cost.

The impact is huge since we are now able to be fully operational as before: we can increase the range of activities offered and can operate our kitchen at full power.  We can even cater for birthdays and events at other locations during winter using our kitchen and The Park staff can do the entertainment in other premises.”

About WEEL

WEEL is part of a larger programme, the EU for Women Empowerment (EU4WE), a 42-month programme (October 2019 – March 2023) funded by the European Union and implemented by Expertise France. It aims at promoting full and unconditional equality between men and women in Lebanon. The specific purpose of EU4WE is to reduce gender-based violence through women’s empowerment and enhance existing institutional mechanisms working towards gender equality.
