On Monday 21st November 2022, the WeMed Award winners were publicly announced through a physical Award Ceremony held in Sant Pau Recinte Modernista, Barcelona.
The goal of this second edition of the WeMed Award, organised by Medwaves the UNEP/MAP Regional Activity Centre for SCP and TEXFOR, was to recognize the outstanding achievements and success stories of sustainable businesses in the textile, clothing and fashion sector.
Winners in the Southern Category
The winner of the 1st prize in the Southern Mediterranean countries category is Leena Ramadan, with her business Hoopoo, a culture-infused brand, inspired by local and international fashion trends customized for a comfortable yet different fashion experience.
The winner of the 2nd prize in the Southern Mediterranean countries category is Jocelyne Saade. Through her business Grade A Plus. She upcycles the sheep wool wasted or burned in Lebanese mountains to produce Blankets, sheep wool insulation sheets and pellet fertilizers.
Winners in the Northern Category
The winner of the 1st prize in the Northern Mediterranean countries category is Federico Miguel Sainz de Robles, with his business Sepiia 2080, that unite fashion and technology, creating a bridge between functionality and design through our smart garments.
The winner of the 2nd prize in the Northern Mediterranean countries category is Niccolò Cipriani, from Italy, with his business Rifo, that makes high quality garments and accessories, using recycled and recyclable textile fibers.
More about the WeMed Award
The 1st prize awards, named ‘Gold acceleration services’ consists in 20.000€ given in the form of coaching services and external technical assistance to develop and consolidate its business idea. For the 2nd prize awards, named ‘Silver acceleration services’ the winners will receive 10.000€ given in the form of coaching services and external technical assistance.
This edition is funded by the ENI CBC Med Programme in the framework of the STAND Up! project and by the SwitchMed programme.
In this second edition, organised by MedWaves, the United Nations Environment Programme Mediterranean Action Plan (UNEP/MAP) regional activity centre for Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) and Texfor – Textile Industry Confederation, the award recognises success stories of sustainable businesses in the textile and clothing sector.
