Scaling-up Agri-Food Innovations (SAFI)

Scaling-up Agri-Food Innovations (SAFI) is a two-year project focusing on the scaling of agro-food and agriculture solutions to reduce import dependency. The SAFI project is implemented by Berytech and funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the Agriculture and Rural Empowerment (ARE) Activity.

The SAFI Project in Brief

The Scaling-up Agri-Food Innovations (SAFI) project was launched under the USAID-funded Agriculture and Rural Empowerment (ARE) activity, with the objective to increase the private sector competitiveness locally and internationally and improve the livelihoods of vulnerable groups.

The project addresses the need to equip the agri-business sector and rural communities with the technical and financial resources to generate increased productivity, sales and exports while improving producer income.

The project covers two cycles of eight months each of acceleration, technical and in-kind support for eight SMEs with scalable solutions that can substitute an imported product, decrease the import of at least one raw material/input product or provide a service that helps in reducing import dependency in Lebanon.

SAFI’s main objectives are:

Increasing private sector competitiveness and improving livelihoods

Increasing domestic and export sales

Increasing access to financial resources

Improving productivity of MSMEs

The project is funded by United States Agency for International Development (USAID) through the Agriculture and Rural Empowerment (ARE) Activity

Through the SAFI project and under the ARE activity, USAID aims to create job opportunities with the focus on vulnerable groups, increase domestic and export sales, increase access to financial resources and improve the productivity of SMEs.
