Green Applied Research and Innovations Support Program

The objective is to develop a green economy in the Mediterranean area to address environmental degradation, representing a great opportunity for jobs creation especially for young and women, and the development of novel green solutions.

The GIMED Project in Brief

Berytech, in the context of the EU-funded GIMED Project, has launched a call for applications to support green entrepreneurs working on Green Applied Research and Innovations, to support them to better access finance and markets, contributing to creating green jobs opportunities and stimulating the region’s green economy.

Green researchers and innovators will get the chance to build their capacities in order to secure investments and business opportunities and successfully take their research and innovative product or service to market.

Selection Criteria

  • The Green applied research projects or innovations should offer products, processes or technologies leading to environmental improvements and sustainability such as energy-saving, pollution-prevention, waste recycling, green product designs, or corporate environmental management and more.

  • The technology-based research or innovation in the Green sector should:
    • Be close to market with intellectual protection potential.
    • Have an existing prototype that is locally developed with the potential of scalability, combining innovation, technology and economic viability.

  • The Founding team of experts must be committed to implementing the project as an independent venture and should have a minimum of two (2) preferably young and women members per team.

The Program's Timeline & Support Stages

The program starts in November 2020 and ends in August 2021. Below is the timeline and the description of the different support stages.

Outreach & Selection

August 2020 – October 2020

Selecting 20 green research and Innovation projects.

Green Capacity Building

January – March 2021

The selected startups will go through a 2-month capacity building program tailored to support them in developing their green business models, access to finance and market strategies.

Jury Day | Selection of 10 projects

March 2021

20 entrepreneurs will pitch in- front of a selected jury that will select 10 entrepreneurs who will continue in the next acceleration phase. 

The pitching teams will be screened based on their value proposition, their innovation, the applicability of their technology and intellectual property, their green business model and scalability potential, their environmental and social impacts, their implementation capacity, and finally on their pitch effectiveness.

Green Coaching Support

March – May 2021

The 10 selected projects will go through a targeted support phase through coaching where they will receive:

  • One-on-one coaching sessions tailored to their needs to access finance and market opportunities.
  • Group coaching sessions where they will benefit from peer learning and targeted workshops.

Pitch & Network Event with Investors

June 2021

After completing the coaching support phase, 10 projects will compete in a pitching event where 4 will be selected to win grant prizes and 3-month incubation support. The participants will get the opportunity to meet with investors to connect and potentially secure funding.   

Green Incubation Support

June – September 2021

The 4 selected teams will benefit from a 3-month incubation support from Berytech as well as receive a grant of 7,500€ to be spent on technical and business support. The 3-month incubation period will revolve around: 

  • defining a business growth roadmap for the teams and supporting them in implementation.
  • facilitating linkages with experts, investors, and professionals – giving the teams access to support programs through Berytech and its partners’ networks – guidance and support in grants disbursement to grow their ventures.

Cross Border B2B meetings

Jan 2022 – Mar 2022

Selected sustainable ventures will attend regional and international events to secure B2B meetings, trade deals, and potential investments. The ventures will be assessed and based on their development in the program they will be selected to attend the events after assessing their needs.
