Zoom In: Diwama, Artificial Intelligence in Waste Management

Diwama
We applied to the Cleanergy Accelerator Program to transform what was only an idea into a real business.

Diwama

What They Do:

Diwama is introducing Artificial Intelligence into waste management to drive recycling revenues. Diwama’s product “Vitron” is an AI-based image recognition software providing automated waste analysis for waste sorting and recycling facilities. Data is collected on waste streams and translated into actionable insights to optimize facility performance, increase both recycling rates and recyclables quality.

Startup Experience:

“We applied to the Cleanergy Accelerator Program to transform what was only an idea into a real business. We wanted to learn more about entrepreneurship and how to be agile and resilient in the face of challenges.

After 9 months in the program, we believe that as co-founders we have become better leaders and entrepreneurs. We have gained skills and knowledge in pitching, marketing, business development, sales, finance, product development, and many others. Our success is measured through the international interest, funding, and support we got for our startup from Plug and Play in Paris to Ma’an and Astrolabs in Abu Dhabi and the Global Incubator Network in Austria. Our best achievement is getting selected as one of the top 11 startups from 1,000+ applicants by one of the biggest accelerators in the world with Plug and Play.

The multiple crises ailing the country have delayed the development of our MVP and the running of our pilot projects in Lebanon, but we managed to keep the efforts going and now we have pilots outside Lebanon as well. We’re hoping that by the end of the Cleanergy Accelerator Program, we’ll be able to raise our pre-seed round to scale up and become the fastest growing startup in the Middle East.”
